Mayfield is an unincorporated community located in the town of Polk in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States.〔http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/dictionary/index.asp?action=view&term_id=5122〕〔http://dhs.wi.gov/VitalRecords/pdf/cvtlist.pdf〕 Mayfield is located just west of Jackson and east of Slinger. It lies to the northwest of the intersection of Wisconsin Highway 60 and U.S. Route 45. ==History== Mayfield was settled and platted by Andreas Reiderer in 1852, an immigrant from Switzerland, who named it after this Swiss town of Maienfeld. Reiderer built a sawmill along the Cedar Creek. The area was also called for Katzbach for a short time, after a man named Joseph Katz built a store in the community. Mayfield received a post office in 1859, but quickly declined after the railroad stopped instead at Jackson, less than a mile to the east.〔Carl Quickert ''Washington County Wisconsin Past and Present'' https://books.google.com/books?id=tcczzsVWo00C&pg=PA81&dq=mayfield〕
